A "thrilling young ensemble at the start of what is sure to be a major international career" (Great Birmingham Brass Fest), Connaught Brass are quickly making a name for themselves as a fresh chamber music talent. Following débuts at the Lucerne Festival and Wigmore Hall, the ensemble won First Prize in the 2019 Philip Jones International Brass Ensemble Competition and, in 2022, the Royal Overseas League Mixed Ensemble Competition.
The group won the Worshipful Company of Musicians Brass Ensemble Prize in 2018, and participated in the music festival Ferrandou Musique in France, returning there in 2019 and 2021. More recently, the Quintet became Artists of the Tillett Trust, City Music Foundation and Kirckman Concert Society, and attended the prestigious Britten Pears Chamber Music Residency 2022.
Recently the Connaughts have performed across the UK and Europe, including concerts in Switzerland and Italy, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St George's Bristol and Lake District Summer Music, and a live performance on BBC Radio 3's InTune. In 22/23 the group make their debut at the Concertgebouw's Spiegelzaal, and give concerts at Wigmore Hall, Kings Place and St John's Smith Square.
Their repertoire spans 500 years, from Renaissance to contemporary, across a range of genres; their growing education work includes projects supported by the Cavatina Trust and the Musicians Company.
Former principals and members of the EUYO, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, members now freelance with the major UK orchestras and opera companies, and record with and support artists such as Bruno Mars, Stormzy, Jamie Cullum, Rag'n'Bone Man, Dave, Giggs and Gregory Porter.
