Mariangela Vacatello (piano)

Schumann/Liszt: 2 lieder - Widmung, Fruhlingsnacht
Liszt: Sonata in B minor

Fedele: 3 Etudes Boreales
Ligeti: Pour Irina (No.16 from Etudes from Book III)
Stravinsky: Trois mouvements de Petrushka

"I believe that a programme has to be varied and exciting for the audience, offering different emotions and contrasting styles. This is why I decided to open my recital with two wonderful and romantic lieder (not forgetting the Schumann and Chopin anniversaries!) and juxtaposing this immediately before the masterpiece which is the Liszt Sonata. The programme continues with Chopin's sensitive and brilliant Andante e Polacca op.22 and the less famous third book of Etudes by Ligeti (composed in 1995-2001) which are considered by many to be some of the greatest modern works for piano.
The programme concludes with one of my favourite pieces which, I feel, matches with my character, musical background and technique. The Petrushka movements are inspirational, winning over performer and audience alike not only with the technical virtuosity required and the fascinating story behind the music, but also for the wonderful colours which transfer so successfully from the orchestral version."
