Neil Black OBE (1932-2016)
It is with the greatest sadness that the Kirckman Concert Society announces the death of its long-serving and outstanding musical director, Neil Black OBE, after a serious illness borne with great dignity.
Neil had been involved with the KCS since he succeeded our founder Geraint Jones as music director. A superb oboist and a teacher with a real flair for identifying highly talented young performers, Neil led and planned the Society's musical programmes for almost twenty years. His programming skills combined with his meticulous annual search for performers with the highest musical standards ensured that those artists selected for promotion by the KCS had the best possible concert opportunities at the start of their international careers. We are deeply indebted for all the care he gave to his management of our musical programme and we will miss his wise counsel and gentle humour.
