Trio Nostos is a chamber ensemble formed at the Royal Academy of Music in London, comprising violinist Monty Guo from Australia, pianist Khrystyna Mykhailichenko from Ukraine, and cellist Jae Min Kim Kang from Spain and South Korea. The trio takes its name from the Greek word "nostos," meaning a homecoming or return journey, reflecting how chamber music brings together diverse musical traditions and creates a shared artistic home.
Each member brings extensive performance experience across Europe, Asia, and Australia as both soloist and chamber musician. Together, they create performances marked by emotional depth, musical clarity, and communicative power. United by their commitment to chamber music, the trio discovered an immediate musical and personal chemistry that shapes their collaborative work. Their playing is characterised by sensitive ensemble work, emotional honesty, and a refined balance between individual expression and collective unity.
Over the past two and a half years, Trio Nostos has performed across the UK, developing a rich and varied repertoire that spans from the classical era to the contemporary. Their programmes include works by Haydn, Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Ravel, alongside lesser-known composers such as Babadjanian and Kapustin, reflecting their commitment to both honouring the classical piano trio canon and championing diverse musical voices.
Their artistry has been shaped by distinguished mentors including Alex Redington, Anthony Marwood, Sini Simonen, Adrian Brendel, Dr Robin Wilson, Marije Johnston, James Sleigh, and members of the Fibonacci String Quartet.
Believing in chamber music's power to connect people across cultures, Trio Nostos performs in both traditional concert halls and intimate spaces, offering fresh and thought-provoking interpretations. They continue to refine their distinctive sound and expand their repertoire, seeking meaningful connections with diverse audiences through heartfelt and artistically significant performances.
